The Quake servers have officially moved
the new machine.
I've setup the old machine to forward to the new one. The DNS address
will be the same but IP will be different:
quake.shmack.net /
69.12.4.244

I should have another server up in a
couple of days on a new machine and ISP. It's rumored that pings
will be a lot lower and more consistent than the current server.
If all goes well, the server's IP address will change yet again. [Equipment
and bandwidth courtesy of www.essentrix.net]

The new machine is giving us hardware
trouble. You might notice the server up and down throughout the
week. I apologize for the inconvenience.

If you're having trouble connecting to quake.shmack.net,
you can always use quake.runequake.com.
That's actually the development server's 'official' address, but the
other is easier to type.

The new server is up and the DNS entry,
quake.shmack.net, will be updated to
forward to the new IP. If you're not using the IP to connect to
the server, you won't need to worry about a thing. For those who
use the IP, the new IP is 64.7.104.131.
A special thanks goes out to Shmack,
from shmack.net, for hosting our game servers. Shmack has gone out
of his way to accommodate me in getting the servers up the way I want
them. Thank you!

- We are planning on moving the Quake
servers this week. Please expect some down time.
- Official version 0.6 was released
and will be the last official version (and snapshot) to contain the
Quakeworld portion of the mod. I may periodically update the
Quakeworld source with major updates, bug fixes, etc., providing
there is a demand for me to do so. The separation of the
sources is due partly to my not having enough time to debug the
Quakeworld code, some compatibility issues with the qccx
internal.qc project, and mostly my absolute disgust for Quakeworld
and its network play.
- I would like to thank Mr. Happy from
the House of Happy (See servers page) for helping me debug the
Quakeworld source.

We experienced a down time of 1
day. I originally thought the T-1 contract expired, but it turns
out one of the machines was saturating the network.
The server will be moving in the next
few weeks to a new location. We are planning a smooth re-location,
but keep your fingers crossed-- just in case.

- The spawn shields no longer
deactivate when picking up all items except power-ups. You're
also prohibited from firing for 1-2 seconds immediately after you
respawn to prevent you from inadvertently losing your shields.
- Flash grenades report who blinded
you.
- Mr. H4pPy set up a Quakeworld Rune
Quake server! Check the servers
page for the address.

- You no longer slide without the
ability to control movement when you're standing on other players,
monsters, or radioactive containers.
- Zombies occasionally get stuck in a
pain frame and will now be killed "by The Gods" if that
happens. Previously they would lay dead for the entire level--
even after the rune was removed.
- Fire traps can no longer live
underwater.

- The synchronization of TICK with
sys_ticrate had some unforeseen consequences with the gravity well
and repulsion rune. You can now control these values from
settings.qc.
- Baker thought it would be useful to
provide a map reference for the standard Quake levels. Check
it out.
Thanks Baker!

- Snapshot version 0.5 released.
Get it here.
If you're not already using qccx or frikqcc to compile the poq or qw
source, you'll need upgrade your compiler in order to get this (and
future versions) to work. All files can be found on the public
ftp.
- The server's ISP was having some
difficulties today. If you are having trouble connecting to
quake.shmack.net, try one of these
servers.

- IMPORTANT:
The cheat free server has been upgraded and you'll need to grab the
3.20 client and the new security module in order to connect.
For more information check out the official ProQuake
website.
- You can no longer cripple (healthy)
doors. Thanks to Baker for the bug report.
- Radiation no longer heals without
rune. I thought this was fixed in an earlier release but it
seems I never committed the changes.
- The environmental suit/rune protects
against death spot explosions, fire trap explosions, and
repulsion. Thanks to Ben and Baker for the suggestions.
- Random powerup respawn is now a
deathmatch bit setting.

- There were small periods of down
time this evening as I was constantly restarting the server testing
out the latest ProQuake binary.
- The admin passcode can now be
configured via the server console.
- The servers page now features other
servers hosted by Rune Quake admins.
- J. P. Grossman released ProQuake
version 3+ this week and it features "Cheat
Protection". Be sure to download it and try out the test
server I've put up on quake.shmack.net:26005. Also, the
official ProQuake web site has moved to http://planetquake.com/proquake.

- The bombs under a lift bug, where
explosions can be felt throughout the level, has been fixed.
- Admins entering a level and joining
the game as a rider from a previous level would create unusual
visual effects for both the rider and ridee and on occasion, crash
the server. This is fixed.

- Exhausting a frozen shambler's
health no longer forces her back to the ice trap origin.
- You're informed when your shambler
is frozen, or when a shambler is frozen in your ice trap.
- Several hook-release bugs have been
fixed concerning the following runes: Recall, Teleport, Phased,
Shambler, and Dual Recall.
- The EP suit/rune protects against
hook attachment and damage.

- Oops! The code that regenerates
health for EP suit would cause problems with other rune types and crash
the server. I've disabled this feature for now. Snapshot
version 0.2.1 fixes the bug. Get it here.
- The watcher script no longer kicks
the wrong status number when someone impersonates another player
(chat spam).

- Firing the lightning gun and super
nail gun in safe water levels at certain angles will result in your
ammo going straight ahead instead of following your player's
angle. This is fixed and should also correct the berserker
rune/shaft oddity which caused the shaft to bob up and down.
- The environmental protection rune
works just like suit. The suit actually is better because if
you have a rune where your normal health is higher than the default
(good health, lumber, jack), it will regenerate until it reaches its
max . Plus, you can go in the water with the electric rune!
- Implemented scratch1 cvar which
controls lightstyle intensity for all lights, server ambient sounds,
and static lights. To remove client ambient sounds, use
the 'ambient_level 0' command.
|
|
|
Sunday, February 24, 2002 by

- I increased the normal light style
to make the levels slightly brighter.
- E1M2's rocket launcher was moved to
a new location and an additional RL was added. I placed the
red armor in the old RL spot.
- I placed a green armor and grenade
launcher in the vicinity of the isolated respawn spot on E2M4.
- The connected to server sound was
changed because it sounded too much like a rocket exploding.
- On a developer's note, I'm
optimizing the code for usage with the FrikQCC compiler. This
means you will no longer be able to use any other compiler.
The FrikQCC
compiler is available for download on the ftp server.
- Shmack granted me access to yet
another machine to put up a Quake server. The IP and DNS are
listed on the servers page.
- KnyteHawkk, developer of Rune Quake
3, is releasing his source to anyone willing to take over the
project. For more details, please check out the RQ3
website.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Rune Quake is a compilation of the works from many developers, including myself. Those
who have contributed to its development are considered the Rune Quake
Development Team!
I would like to personally thank each
member of the Rune Quake Development Team:
Nick 'Singe' Bousman [Creator of Artifact]
- Rune Quake would not have been created if not for you. Your
Artifact mod inspired the release of many rune mods. Thank you.
Roderick Schertler [Creator of Artifact-RJS]
- The bulk of the Rune Quake code was contributed by you. Thank
you for your years of dedication and continued support.
Jared 'KnyteHawkk' Larsen [Creator of Rune Quake
3] - Jared wrote most of the alternate weapons and hook code.
He also supported my usage of the name Rune Quake, which is the name of
his mod, for Quake 3. Thank you.
I didn't complete the web site, but I
wanted to bring it online at the start of the year so I apologize for
the lack of content.
In the mean time, the development
server is up at
quake.shmack.net
::
209.48.106.170
and my goal is to release version 0.1
before mid January.
A special thanks goes out to Shmack
who is the primary host of the development server.
