So, proquake wont work?

The -ip parameter, are you SURE its the current ip? This happens with DSL, each time you connect to your isp you may get a different address.
If you have a Linksys router/firewall, load up your browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the adress bar, it will ask you for name/password (defaults are admin, admin) then after u connect to the router, look for a tab called STATUS usually on the right hand side.

use that as the proper ip.

Hope this helps or else i'll just faint.

Um, also make sure you have the correct address to runequake?
connect quake.runequake.com
or
connect quake.shmack.net

type this in the command prompt (not quakes :P) to see the ip of your machine:
Code:
ipconfig

you'll probably have a class C IP address and mask. So the first 3 spots would be your network location and the last is your machine's.

Dang near everyone these days is behind a router using NAT, and therefore the ip that shows up in ipconfig etc is not your correct ip, you have to get it from your router as per rook's instructions :)

or setup your router to accept packets from quake1. Or turn off your router

There are a number of choices

Um? This is so strange because doing c:\quake\whateverquake.exe -ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx the IP must be the local ip, not the internet IP with an NAT router.

So like in this example, I'd have to use c:\quake\whateverquake.exe -ip 192.168.1.100

The internet IP means nothing to your computer. Your computer does not even know your internet IP if you have an NAT router.

Is someone actually able to use c:\quake\whateverquake.exe -ip (insert internet ip) and it work who is using a router? This shouldn't be possible.

(By the way, JoeQuake and QRack have the same NAT fix that ProQuake has ... Joszef added the NAT fix to JoeQuake back in 2003. :D)

Doesn't sound like an NAT router to me. I am pretty certain I know of at least 3 fixes to your problem.

The easiest will be forthcoming in 5 to minutes ;)

What version of Windows?

Go to Network Connections. I am hoping this is Windows XP.

Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections

How many icons do you have? In my screenshot above the number of network connection icons is 2.

If your setup is like most peoples, only one of these icons is your actual internet connection and it sounds like you have more than 1 enabled.

1. How many network icons, how many enabled?

2. If you are using a LAN, is your DSL connection plugged into your computer or your router?

3. If you do Start -> Click Run and type "command" and press Enter -> On the black DOS prompt, type "ipconfig".

You will get results like ...

I assume you get more than the 3 lines of output that I got. How many sets of 3 does it show?

But when using the -ip parameter with Quake it has to be your local IP address. When you are using an NAT router, the local ip address is never your internet ip address so that whatsmyip.com ip address isn't useful for much if you are using a router.
