Post subject:  Best custom DM maps?

There are a ton of custom DM maps for quake floating around out there. I'd like to put together a collection of just the best ones. Joequake and Qrack both play custom maps with the shareware version, so anyone could freely download a nice looking quake client and some great DM maps to play. I'm thinking of maps like q1edge, ultraviolence, aerowalk, etc. Would some of you be so kind as to name a few of your all time favorite custom DM maps for quake? If you like, you can email suggestions to yellow(at)quakeone.com.
thanks!

Here is a (crappy) map reference for a good number of custom maps:

Custom Map Reference[/url]

This map reference includes every map used at Beatdown / IHOC / DeadZone and Slot's library of custom maps.

Some maps I think play well:

Q1Edge

DeBello

Park

SOFDM1

Image
SOFDM3

Never tried it yet, but looks like it would be exciting ... Bomberman

Image
Never tried it, looks fun ... Old West

This map is cool! .... dead

GenDM1

Grim (at Singed.Net) likes CTF1 in the Threewave pack. I've tried it and it looks like it would require at least 10 CTF players because it is kind of large, but it is a great map.

Most of them can be obtained at: ftp://ftp.runequake.com/quake/maps/ and those 2 maps ARE there.

Trinca, since you are the maps master: could you name off 15 to 20 of the best multiplayer maps in your opinion. The ones you like the best for multiplayer?

I'll have to check out those maps; and p3a is an excellent map. :D

Let me ask you this: it there a good clone of DM2, DM3, DM4 or DM6 out there.

We are trying to bundle a "complete-like" Quake and a map set for multiplayer using shareware maps (E1Mx) + custom maps while avoiding pak1.pak maps = registered version maps (E2Mx, E3Mx, E4Mx, DMx). This will allow us to distribute it and we can also establish servers compatible with it.

DM4, DM6 and DM3 are loved Quake maps not available in pak0.pak; do you know of clones of those maps? (Very similar to those maps, but not those maps).

Where can I get those maps? I only have about 8 of those and maps.quakeworld.nu is down. I've tried Googling and have found some of them, but others turn up nothing.

I've heard nexdmextra1 is really similar to dm6.

I don't know if anyone has the map though.

BTW, Baker, did you make that list of maps with images on: http://www.quakeone.com/q1files/img/maps/ ? If so, and if you have all the actual maps to those maps listed you should link a download to each one.

Those maps are from:

ftp://ftp.runequake.com/quake/maps/

http://www.quake.ihoc.net/maps.html

And the Beatdown Alley map pack + DeadZone Maps Pack + http://bizarro.galaxy-pc.com/miscquake.htm

Trinca knows far more about maps than I ever will (he even made an Excel spreadsheet to detect what maps you don't have from his list of 900+ maps).

I think Quake needs a super map resource, maps.quakeworld.nu was excellent at that but considering that quakeworld.nu has been hacked or brought down more than once this year alone and will be down for a couple of months due to the latest hacking attempt, I think there needs to be a couple of mirrors of that or something.

Anything I could do would pale next to anything Trinca can do. :D

Note: DM4 Clone found ... Badwalk.bsp. Needs a bar to block the teleporter at the megahealth, heheh ;) DM4Back.bsp is also quite similar. Bworld.bsp is like a DM4 all on 1 level (as opposed to several decks).

Basewalk.bsp is very similar to DM3, but not quite enough but has similar game play.

And a map named butt.bsp (hey, I didn't name it ... we could rename the bsp, hehe) plays excellent and feels like an ID deathmatch map.

Carddm2 and and a map named Demons play very well. They are very dm-like.

A DM6 substitute is the hardest.
