I've played in "shmack" on and off for several years. Back around 2005 my son started playing (GameFreak) and then I joined some of the matches. Those who played in the deathmatches probably remember my various chat binds like "killing is my business and business is good" or "it's on like donkey kong biotch." I was never at a high level of skill but enjoyed popping in to blow off steam. Around 2012 or so I switched mostly to using Macs and my PC fell into a state of disuse. I did recently reactivate and copy all of my programs over, including Joequake. Have popped in and seen folks there on a couple occasions but doesn't seem as busy as it once was.

Hope to see more people out there! Also was wondering if the server is going to stay up?

Welcome back! Servers are crowd funded and will remain up so long as the community wishes it. These forums aren't active unless someone starts a conversation and more people check in. Servers aren't as busy as they once were but usually if you hop on the server and give it enough time someone will join you (depending on time of day I suppose).
