Post subject:  Grappling Players idea

I just had a thought since it seems the newest trend on Shmack is to grapple people... (it's always been like that but now it seems everyone is doing it)... what if you minimize damage from your weapon when you are grappled to someone? Not sure if that's possible via coding but I think it's a good idea. Say when you grapple someone your weapon does 20% less damage, or 15% or whatever.

And don't get me wrong here, I grapple people all the time as well. I'm not complaining about this, I'm just trying to come up with a new idea...

Increase axe damage so u can axe em in 3 hits :)
or compare the diff of velocity between the two players, and if its greater than 500 the chain breaks :)

...can't shoot at all while grappling?

...victim's axe cuts the grappling line?

...grapple only does damage when it attaches, not continuously?

I would vote for that being a 3wav ctf player. I'd ideally like to see that you can't shoot other weapons while shooting out the hook. Once you attach to a player you can then switch to a weapon or fire the already selected weapon. I understand that the noobs won't stand for this though. Hence the idea of maybe decreasing damage of other weapons when hooked to a player, or when shooting the hook out.

Another idea is for grappling players to be susceptible to increased damage. Grapple centric tactics such as ceiling camping, dodging via hook flying and hooking onto other players will become less effective and therefore less utilized with the modification.

I say leave it alone. Weaknesses such as this are what lets players who are noobs or who just barely respawned still get frags, which is what keeps the mod alive. Take out all the weaknesses for strong players and you cut the legs out from under the player base.

Noobs are great. Keep 'em comin'!

Noobs dont get kills by grappling players, which is what my original suggestion was for. When noobs grapple you they always shoot rockets dead on you and die from their own splash damage.

hey guys, i agree grapple kills suck, I like one of yugo's suggestions of no damage done with the grapple. Another would be that you cant attatch to players at all....

Hence the option to vote player hook. It's already there....vote-hook-damage in the console.

I enjoy the people-grappling feat the way it is. Maybe there should be a way to break the chain. I like the idea of using the axe. Otherwise it shouldn't be changed.
