A few of us have been working on a new quake website that's nearing completion, QuakeOne.com. The idea behind the site is to provide all the information and downloads new players need to play quake, and provide a general Quake community site not focused on any particular server or mod.

Despite it closing in on it's 10 year anniversary, many still feel Quake is the most fun online game around. It has great, balanced gameplay that just feels more fun and satisfying than games that have came along after it. Not everyone has the time and interest to learn a new game every few months, or spend all their time and energy acquiring resources in MMORGs.

But the quake community has been dwindling because new players haven't known where to start because there hasn't been one easy place that explains where to get an appropriate client, get it set up, and find a server with a game. We aim to change that with QuakeOne.

We aren't looking to replace any other sites, but rather setup something that we feel is missing from the Quake community. Mostly we want to attract more new players and players who haven't played it years to Quake. If you like this idea, come check it out at QuakeOne.com, tell your friends about it, or help out any way you can!

Primary contributors to the effort: Steve, Yellow No. 5, Baker, Apocalypse, Hydrosmoke, Bam, Zop, Sputnikutah

Visit the site: http://www.QuakeOne.com.

Steve did an outstanding job on the design of the site, including the server browser. There are a lot of comprehensive Quake guides that were written by myself and Yellow on a ton of different topics, screenshots of clients, downloads and a forum.

Here is a logo Lefty made for the site, heh.

Maybe I need to make some bot accusations or accuse someone of cheating to get more activity in this thread. :D :D

To be consistent with the site, the logo should read "QuakeOne.com".

Guides->Get Quake! Startup Help->Quake 2006 - Get Up To Speed

The paragraph that starts with "Quake was the first real multiplayer game..." contradicts itself.

The paragraph that starts with "on June 15th, the first Quake server went live..." is out of place.

What is the purpose of the article? Is it to promote Quake or be informative? If the latter, I think the whole article can use some help.

There's the use of inexact or questionable verbiage: "Quake has improved graphics, mature mods, excellent server admins...", "there are tons of Quake developers of all types", "...allow maximum flexibility for players to select settings...", "...server mods are thoroughly debugged...", "...the player/forum community is great...".

There is no mention of John Carmack or Quake helping to start the 3D genre. And although there is information about Quake client modifications, there is a lack of coverage of server side mods (CTF, Rocket Arena, Rune Quake, etc.).

I wrote the original article a year ago, then Yellow later decided he wanted to edit it and now the article has plenty spelling and grammatical errors.

I will try to more thoroughly catch Yellow's errors in the future

Need a few more members, we are at 60+ in just 4 days but would be nice to have close to 80 or 90 before the week is out to keep momentum going. The more we have, the more likely it is that we get some events going.

Don't be shy.

Actually, in all seriousness we want to make the guides section on quakeone.com as great as possible, so people who stumble across quake again after not playing in forever can simply be directed there, rather than they just leave again cause they dont know what the heck is going on.

As we said the guides section still needs work, so if anyone has ideas on improving or creating guides, then join the party.

Register and be #88 and we can talk about it further at the QuakeOne.com forum :D :D

In all seriousness, we do need some more help from those with a good mix of technical Quake experience and web site knowledge because we have a lot of stuff we want to do.

Register @ QuakeOne and I'll private message you the address for where we have discussions on the site development.

89 registered members = 83 members + 6 members that haven't checked their email to click the link that activates their account.
