A popular free-ware tool that I understand will allow you to write JPGs to CD-R so you can play it your TV DVD Player has recently gone commercial-ware.

This program, called VCDEasy, not only appears to have the capability of writing up to 1900+ photos on CD for play in any TV DVD player, but also can write MPEG1/MPEG2 files to CD for play on any TV DVD player.

The most important characteristics of the software are that is reputedly both a high quality product and free.

The home page of the product has indicated that starting with version 1.16, the freeware version will be very limited (equals crippled, many cool functions are disabled, ability to write is limited.

The home page states that the freeware version is still available on the internet, but you have to find it ... and I did.

Here is one download site for the final freeware version of VCD-Easy, version 1.15.2:

By the way, the author(s) of VCDEasy specifically added 2 special characteristics to the final freeware version of their product:

1.15.2 has no nag screens and no expiration date.

I'm sure at some point the commercial-ware version's features and functionality will evolve far beyond 1.15.2 (because CD/DVD authoring tools are rapidly evolving) but I still think this was mighty cool of them.

This freeware tool will convert an AVI file to MPEG1: avi2vcd

download link: http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1/rq4dl/avi ... r1_4_2.zip

MPEG1 can be written to CD (in a format called VCD, as in "Video CD") and then played in a DVD player.

[I'll document this better as I use it.]
