Post subject: | Spinning Grappling Hook O' Death |
I'm a returning vet of the old runes days and was curious to know what happened with the hook. It no longer sticks to the enemy while spinning and tearing his flesh. (also making your body tilt at an angle to illustrate flying )Has this feature been taken off or is there a toggle for it, or was this for Artifact Quake? BTW, which "rune" mod came first? Artifact or RQ? And if I may ask as well, what is the difference between the following: Artifact Quake Rune Quake Rune Quake Advanced |

Hey thanks for the reply. It feels good to come back to the satanic world of Quake 1. As for the hook, I remember throwing it at my friend one time and remember seeing that it was spinning and taking bits of his health away. I was able to grapple to him in the process. Then later that night I remember he returned the favor and was litteraly flying face down towards my direction. As I said, I remember the time when the hook actually was player grappable and did do damage to the player it was grappled to. Is there a variable I'm not aware of that can be altered to change this? |

Yes, but only the person running the server can turn it on or off. |

Details! What's the command? Do I have to be in admin mode? Please!! I want player grappable enabled! and how do I get the flying back! |

Unfortunately it's not that easy. You'll have to recompile a new progs.dat. First you must edit the file settings.qc of the source code and search for the word "HOOK_DAMAGE". Change any value of zero to the damage value you want. A common free hook value is one damage point. Then save, recompile, and replace the old progs.dat with the newly compiled one. |

Well the settings.qc in the 1.0 src already has it set. How would I compile it to get a new progs.dat? And will this get me back the flying players? |

If your server is using 1.0, then you shouldn't have to recompile. If you want to recompile anyway, please read the very top of the file settings.qc. |

Thanks for your help Slot. Case is closed, because I was using runebots, I had forgotten to replace the dat file from it's own directory and not the runes directory. |
